Hacker Challenge Winner: Photograph Your Clothing Combinations

Hacker Challenge Winner: Photograph Your Clothing Combinations In last week's Hacker Challenge, we asked you to share your best clothing hack. We received some great entries, but the winning hack shows us a way to remember great color combinations for your clothes.

Winner: Photograph Your Clothing Combinations

For years, Joel played it safe when it came to choosing color combinations for his clothing (red shirt, black tie, black pants, for example). As a result, he really had only six or seven different outfits for work. When he started dating his wife, that changed. She laid out all the different combinations Joel's clothes could handle and took pictures. She printed them and handed Joel a stack of more than fifty outfits that he could put together. The code at the bottom of the photos indicates the pants that go with the pictured shirt and tie (Tan, Medium Brown, Chocolate, in this case). Now when Joel receives compliments on his clothes, he's proud to say "Thanks! My wife dressed me."

Create a Velcro Epaulet to Secure Your Camera Strap

Hacker Challenge Winner: Photograph Your Clothing Combinations As a press photographer, CareyB frequently carries around a heavy camera. The trouble was that CareyB and most of his colleagues used narrow straps because the wider ones tend to chafe your neck and can't be put under a collar. Changing straps all the time was annoying, so CareyB's solution was sew Velcro straps onto the shoulders of his vest and jacket to create epaulets. He secured both parts of the Velcro, running a single line of stitching parallel to the shoulder seam. The Velcro provided decent extra padding, regardless of which strap he used. He could also peel back the top layer of Velcro and put the strap between the two layers, creating secure grip on the strap.

Use Leg Warmers for Your Arms

Hacker Challenge Winner: Photograph Your Clothing Combinations Vanessa was tired of her arms getting cold on bike trips to and from campus, but she didn't want to wear a coat that she'd then have to lug around all day. Enter the leg warmer. They're cheap and come in all kinds of styles. They keep Vanessa's arms warm and they are light enough to just stuff in her bag. She can also pull them down over her hands to double as gloves. In fact, she has ended up preferring them to gloves because she can just push them up instead of removing them when it's time to wash her hands or eat. Also, the elastic makes them useful for tucking away money, cards, and other small objects.

Wash And Store Your Shirts Inside-Out

Hacker Challenge Winner: Photograph Your Clothing Combinations LHanon leaves his shirts inside out after taking them off. He washes them that way so that he doesn't have to worry about lint collecting during the laundry cycle?the lint will only be on the inside of the shirt. LHanon also folds or hangs up the shirt while still inside out, then just flips it on neck first when it's time to wear it. This technique prevents him from getting deodorant marks on the outside of the shirt.
