BELOIT?Three people were arrested Thursday after an incident that put Beloit College in lockdown, according to a news release from the Beloit Police Department.

Arrested were Jose R. Rodriquez, 61, Beloit, on charges of disorderly conduct while armed and resisting; Diamond C. Hodges, 20, Beloit, on traffic warrants and Dawn M. Ford, 44, Beloit, on a Department of Corrections warrant.

According to the news release:

Police at 12:25 p.m. were dispatched to a disturbance in the 1800 block of Park Avenue. The person calling 911 said he or she had been threatened by someone with a handgun. The suspect had fled.

Officers saw the suspect vehicle pull into a parking garage at an apartment building in the 900 block of Park Avenue. Officers learned the suspect lived in the building. They secured the building and started negotiations with the suspect.

The college was put on lockdown because the apartment building is close to campus. Police made voice contact with the suspect at 1:50 p.m. Just after 3 p.m., the suspect and a woman voluntarily left the apartment and were taken into custody without incident. After a short search, police found another woman hiding in the apartment.

Police did not find a handgun, but they found what they think are narcotics and drug paraphernalia. The incident remains under investigation, and more charges are possible.

No shots were fired, no one was injured, and the suspect denies threatening to shoot anyone.
