The Sales & Marketing Manager will be the primary staff member responsible for sales calls and efforts to attract large conference
groups and other external clients to host their events at BGSU. This person will manage and direct the summer program sales and marketing
efforts for the Bowen-Thompson Student Union (BTSU) for the benefit of generating additional income for the department, division and the
University.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assists the Conference & Event Services office at the BTSU with strategic planning, and leads the sales and marketing efforts to attract target market segments to campus, while ensuring branding and messaging on all market and sales initiatives is consistent and targeted.
- Directs the planning, coordination, implementation, and on-site management of Summer Programs scheduled through the Conference & Event Services office in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union (BTSU). Provides additional leadership and on-site management for high-profile university-sponsored events on a year-round basis as they relate to the strategic goals of the university. Serves as the primary liaison for external clients looking for a facility with the resources necessary to house their conferences, weddings, events and more during Summer and break periods. Schedule includes early mornings, evenings and weekend work to check with clients and provide additional management of events scheduled outside normal business hours as needed.
- Develops, nurtures, and maintains on-going collaborative relationships within the university and the external community to encourage support of the BTSU's Conference & Event Services office and its mission. Represents the BTSU and BGSU at various local, state and national organizations regarding event and conference-related issues.
- Responsible for contract negotiations with internal and external clients under the framework approved by the Director of the BTSU for services and goods related to events and conferences that the BTSU Conference & Event Services office will bid on and/or manage.
- Assists the BTSU with operational management and/ the Conference & Event Services office with additional event management as needed.
Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
- Evidence of progressively more responsible management and supervisory experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public presentation skills.
- Evidence of ability to coordinate events, from individual meetings to complex multi-day multi-facility events.
- Experience in a sales and marketing capacity with tangible results from own efforts to attract and obtain new clientele on a for profit or non-profit basis.
- Evidence of ability to develop sound working relationships with internal partners and external constituents.
- Evidence of ability to solve problems and to resolve conflict quickly and efficiently when it occurs.
- Proficient with all Microsoft Office products: email, web browser knowledge is essential; Web Illustrator and Photoshop experience preferred.
Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in business administration, hospitality management, marketing, finance or closely related field. Also required two to four years experience in marketing and/or sales/fundraising, and/or hospitality management; and two to four years of supervisory or management experience.

Salary
Full-time, Administrative staff position available. Administrative pay grade 355. Salary is commensurate with education
and experience. Full benefit package available.
